O Papel da Epigenética na Periodontite: da Patobiologia às Novas Terapias

Resumo

O estudo investigou o papel dos mecanismos epigenéticos, como a metilação do DNA, modificações nas histonas e a regulação por microRNAs, na patobiologia da periodontite. A pesquisa baseou-se em uma revisão de literatura conduzida na base de dados PubMed, abrangendo trabalhos publicados ao longo das últimas duas décadas, que analisaram conceitos clássicos e inovadores sobre como fatores ambientais e comportamentais, como tabagismo e dieta, podem alterar processos epigenéticos, impactando a resposta inflamatória e imunológica do hospedeiro e contribuindo para a progressão da doença. O referencial teórico destaca a interação entre epigenética, disbiose e destruição tecidual, ampliando a compreensão da fisiopatologia da periodontite. Os resultados indicam que mudanças epigenéticas não apenas intensificam a inflamação e a destruição tecidual, mas também abrem novas perspectivas para o desenvolvimento de estratégias terapêuticas inovadoras baseadas na epigenética para o controle e prevenção da doença. Conclui-se que uma abordagem integrativa, que considere fatores epigenéticos e ambientais, é crucial para o avanço no manejo da periodontite.
